Cedexis Openmix
Data-driven Cloud Routing
Cedexis Openmix provides a revolutionary, patent-pending approach to DNS-based Global Traffic Management/Global Server Load Balancing (GTM/GSLB).
For 15 years, GTM/GSLB tools and services have relied on proprietary, inextensible, static rules engines to define and control a narrow set of fixed policies (e.g., failover, round-robin, geo-targetting). Our mission is to enable next-generation cloud strategies based on real-time datafeeds. The globally-distributed, on-demand Openmix platform provides a highly robust means of ingesting real-time data from various sources, and exposing this metadata as environment “variables” which can be evaluated on each request.

Think of it as an air traffic controller for the internet.
Automated Control
Our secret sauce? It turns out most network administrators are tired of wrestling with graphical control panel/wizard interfaces which limit them to a narrow set of pre-determined policies. Given a choice, they prefer the extensibility and power of a high-performance script engine like Openmix.
Openmix scripts are programmed in PHP – a commonly used server-side language, accessible to most web programmers and network administrators. While this script-based approach may seem like more of a “blank slate” than a pretty GUI, the power of this approach is that virtually any business logic can be implemented – with minimal coding complexity — to use as the basis for truly dynamic traffic management policies. For more information and example applications, check out the Openmix Application Library and Openmix Developer SDK.
Benefits of Openmix
- Control your price/performance tradeoffs
- Eliminate single-vendor dependencies
- Ensure 100% availability
- Banish headaches associated with multi-sourcing
- Remove uncertainties of legacy performance tools
- Offload traffic selectively and strategically
- Leverage specific providers to target individual markets
How it works
Log into the Cedexis Portal to deploy your first application. A library of sample apps is available to help you get started. Once you’ve finished testing, a simple DNS CNAME record enables you to map any number of web properties to your new app.
Requests are automatically routed to the nearest of our geographically and logically dispersed datacenters, where dynamic decisions are made on each request based on a blend of datafeeds and custom algorithms. We provide the platform and the data; You provide the business logic.
Network Datafeeds
Beyond Geo-Location
Like all GSLB/GTM solutions, Cedexis Openmix supports simple geo-targetting: Within your applications, you can adjust decisions based on your region, country, and network (ASN) of your visitors.
Sometimes, however, geodata isn’t enough. Working with some of the world’s largest service providers and telecom vendors, we’ve developed a set of tools which enable us to extract data directly from our customers’ network topologies. Cedexis Openmix is the first commercial load balancer to support the new ALTO protocol, as well as provide generic support for per-customer BGP datafeeds.
Fusion Datafeeds
Real Time Load and Capacity
Cedexis Fusion enables Openmix applications to access real-time load, capacity, and usage statistics from a growing list of cloud providers, delivery networks, and datacenter hardware. Openmix developers can take advantage of Fusion datafeeds to dynamically adjust their cloud routing decisions based on:
- Resource Availability
- System Utilization
- Current connections and bandwidth (mbps)
- Cumulative bandwidth (GB served)
- Variable pricing
Radar Datafeeds
Real Time Performance and Availability
Cedexis Openmix lets enterprises dynamically and automatically maximize their web infrastructure performance using the industry’s largest real-time, crowd-sourced performance monitoring platform, Cedexis Radar. With continuous data streaming in from over 32,000 networks worldwide, Openmix offers unparalleled sensitivity to local variations in cloud performance.
Unlike other GTM/GSLB solutions which rely on periodic input from a small set of datacenter-based agents, Openmix applications using Radar data react automatically to real-time changes in operational performance. Consequently, traffic decisions can be adjusted in seconds, rather than hours, and without any manual intervention.
Pulse Datafeeds
The Kitchen Sink
Cedexis Pulse enables Openmix applications to access application-specific information defined by our customers themselves. This wildcard approach opens the door to unlimited flexibility and previously unimaginable use-cases, such as green-routing traffic based on electricity consumption, dynamically-updating access lists based on 3rd party information, and many more.
